Collagen

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and the primary structural component of our cells and tissues. Not only does it provide support for the body, but it also keeps our skin looking radiant. Naturally produced within our body, collagen provides our skin with structural integrity and helps our skin to look smooth, plump, and radiant.

Main Sources of Collagen Supplements

  • Marine Collagen

Marine collagen has remarkable effects on the skin in terms of elasticity, sebum production and dermal ultrasonic markers. Marine collagen improves cartilage and skin health. In comparison to other types of collagens, Marine collagen carries a lower risk of transmitting diseases, consists of a higher absorption rate, and has fewer inflammatory effects.

  • Bovine Collagen

Bovine collagen is mainly beneficial for bone and joint health. This makes it a good supplement for people with arthritis or osteoporosis.

Anti-Aging Benefits

Collagen works to slow the natural aging process of your skin. As you age your body produces less collagen, leading to dry skin and the formation of wrinkles. Collagen supplements have been attributed to their ability to stimulate your body to produce collagen on its own. Studies have shown that after intaking collagen in a 12-week period, skin has shown to dramatically improve in hydration, elasticity, roughness, and density.

Hydration – Collagen contains high levels of hydroxyproline, an amino acid that has been scientifically proven to increase skin’s moisture levels and smoothness. Hydration is also essential for joint health. When our joints are adequately hydrated, pain and inflammation are reduced as well.

Elasticity– Elasticity is the skins’ ability to stretch and snap back to its original shape. Collagen gives more structure to the skin. Research shows that supplementing marine collagen increases moisture levels in the extracellular matrix, a protein that determines our skins physical properties. The extracellular matrix retains water and supports smooth, firm and strong skin.

Roughness– Marine collagen studies show improvements to the texture of the skin and an increase to the coherence of  skin cells within the first 12 weeks of use. Studies have shown an increase in smoothness and decrease in roughness up to 41% when using marine collagen.

Density– As we get older our skin density decreases. Skin density is one of the measures dermatologists use to determine a person’s skin age. Studies show that supplementing marine collagen improves skin density, skin firmness and resilience in as little as 12 weeks.
